Where the hell have I been???

Ok, I admit it… I started off strong, but due to work commitments and having a life I neglected posting on my personal blog.  The blog was originally aimed at online entrepreneurs and small business owners, but I have decided to change the format of the blog slightly and just make it a place where [...]

New years resolution ideas for 2009

It’s time once again to begin working on your new years resolutions.  When thinking about resolutions or goals for the new year, keep it simple.  Don’t try to change too much in a short amount of time as it can easily get the better of you.  Make a list and keep it visible so you can refer to it every day, then make the time to work on each point at a steady pace.

Merry Christmas to all

Just a quick note to wish all of my friends, colleagues and readers a very merry Christmas.  I have enjoyed creating and posting in this blog and I hope it has offered you some helpful advice.  I have been told by many people lately that 2009 is going to be very exciting year for them and I have to agree, I am also very excited about the new year.  Make sure you have some goals to work towards for 2009 and keep motivated.

Anyway, have a safe and merry christmas and enjoy the time spent with you family and friends during the holiday period.

Would you pay for premium Wordpress support?

If I didn’t have so much experience using and developing wordpress, I would pay for support.  I use Wordpress for many of my own websites and clients websites as well.  In my opinion, it’s the best free blogging platform/CMS available.  (Even better now that 2.7 is out!)

If you are using wordpress to blog and make money or using it for a commercial application, perhaps a few dollars for prompt live support is money well spent.  However, if you just use Wordpress as a hobby, I don’t think you would pay for support unless it’s really necessary.   If you want free support, you can always post a question up at the Wordpress support forums and wait for a reply.

Some people do not have the patience or the skills to spend hours fixing what could take an experienced person 5 minutes.  It all depends how much your time is worth to you and if you would like to be stress free.

My Wordpress 2.7 upgrade experience

Ok, so I was browsing the wordpress.org website and found that they had uploaded the latest stable release of Wordpress (version 2.7).  I was so excited I was tempted not to backup any files (unlike some people I know! ahem.. Jonathon) but I resisted the urge and backed up both my database and WP files.

After the backup was complete, I simply uploaded the new files via ftp making sure that I kept any files I had modified (like wp-config.php) then ran wp-admin/upgrade.php.

The upgrade was flawless and took under 5 minutes to complete.  When I returned to my WP admin section I was greeted with a sexy new user interface. :)  The new interface takes a little bit of getting used to, but after a few minutes I was able to navigate with no problems at all.
